We got the call on Wednesday. Our son, now 17, is continuing to disrupt the Teen Challenge program and the staff and leadership of the program are throwing in the towel.
Last week we told our son that if he didn’t pull his act together and get average or higher on his daily behavior scores there, they’d kick him out and this was his last chance. If he gets kicked out I’m going to just be there one day to get him and he won’t be coming back to Denver, I’ll take him to my high school home in Indiana.
And he got 3s. For two days.
He’s disruptive to the staff and to the other students, and they’ve had enough. They’re giving us some time to get him.
In the last 48 hours, our church, family, and friends have been amazing.
The engine in our SUV died on our 20th anniversary this year – we had to sell it for parts – and our minivan is unlikely to survive a trip this long. Do we have to… buy a car?!
Both a co-worker and a friend in my men’s group from church scrambled to get cars in the shop to offer them to us. Amazing. Late last night my wife’s parents got back to us that we can use a car they won’t need – typically it’s used by my sister-in-law’s family when they’re in-state and they won’t need it either.
My daughter’s last soccer games and the Wellspring foster/adoption support group are tomorrow, then I teach pre-Kindergarteners on Sunday. After lunch on Sunday I’ll start driving, picking up my son.
